The Truth Behind Dame Mary Bolles

Heath Hall at Wakefield West Yorkshire was owned by William Witham ESQ who also owned and lived at Ledstone Hall.

He died in 1543 he left Ledstone to his son and Heath Hall whent to his daughter Dame Mary Bolles.In 1543 when William died of being murgeg by Mary Panella maide of Ledstone Hall it was Dame Mary that tried and convicted Mary Panell at York and she was hanged in 1605.

Mary Bolles was a powerfull lady and when Mary Panell was being hanged Mary Bolles was present Mary Panells last words to Mary was pity on you.Dame Mary was married twice her first husband was Thomas Jobson then she later married Thomas Bolles her full name became Elizabeth Jobson Bolles.

Dame Mary had 10 children only 5 survived two of them were less than a year old all of her children carried Witham as there last names.

This nice old lady that everyone belive to be kind had people excecuted one of them was Mary Panell.Dame Mary died seen as a witch herself by local people .When you go to Ledsham church be careful that is when you will feel a cold breeze right near her toumb .
