Stories of ghostly galleons sailing the high seas were frequently the topic of mariners' tales in the 18th century, and even today there are accounts of similar hauntings. The Flying Dutchman has been seen many times around the Cape of Good Hope, sailing its spectral course through the skies, above the stormy seas. Accounts of its appearances have even been recorded by the British Admiralty. The Lady Lovibond is another spectral ship whose anniversary haunting re-enacts its demise on Goodwin Sands in Kent on 13 February every 50 years.
