Rotherfield stands over five hundred feet above sea-level in the Weald, about ten miles south of Tunbridge Wells. The River Rother rises here and meanders along the Kent and Sussex borders down to the coast at Rye.
The King's Arms is a typical Wealden building, half-timbered and hung with red tiles. It was originally part of a brewery and finally became an inn in 1731. There are stories of hauntings and strange happenings at the King's Arms but no one has been able to identify the ghosts that occupy this atmospheric pub.
