A tape recorder is useful for recording long séance or ouija board sessions. The tape can be played back at a later date, and the contents can be analyzed and transcribed onto paper or a computer. They can also be left recording for long periods of time in empty rooms. When the tapes are played back, there may be sounds that cannot be explained. Tape recorders can also be used to capture EVPs, but a dictaphone is better for this.
