String,cotton,fishing line and sticky tape can all be used, but are particularly handy for securing windows and doors. To secure an area, use sticky tape to fix a piece of fishing wire across a closed door. If, when you return, the wire has been broken, you will know that the area has been visited by some one or something. Black or white cotton can also be used to secure areas by attaching it loosely across archways and passageways; if anything solid passes through them it will break or dislodge the cotton. This is a good way of catching out anyone who is trying to trick you, as well as helping you to identify where solid apparitions have passed.
