Norma Kresgal, of New York, was awakened by the barking of Corky, her collie dog. But Corky was dead. Mrs Kresgal got up to investigate - and found that the house was on fire. In Wichita, Kansas, Mrs Lowanda Cady was woken by the barking of her dead dog and drove off a thief who had been raiding her kitchen.

Walter Manuel awoke in terror the night he dreamed about his pet dog Lady which had died three weeks earlier. In his dream, Manuel heard the dead pet barking frantically. He awoke and rushed to the bedroom window of his home in a Los Angeles suburb. Outside he saw his two-year-old son, clad in pyjamas, topple into the garden pool. He rushed to the rescue and dragged the child from the water.
