Humans are not the only creatures to return in ghostly form after death. There are plenty of spectral animals to be seen around Scotland, especially dogs. The hounds that howl by the ruins of Buck-holme Tower in the Borders inspire fear in those who hear them. Another phantom dog has been heard crashing against a bedroom door in Ballechin House in Perthshire. Tiree has yet another canine ghost.
Tiree is a beautiful island off the west coast of Scotland, blessed with long stretches of silver sand around its shores. On and around one such beach on the northern side of the island a ghostly dog has been seen and heard several times. The dog is large and black and usually makes itself heard first with a strange, hollow-sounding bark. It will follow people along the beach for quite some distance before it disappears into thin air.
