Grandmother’s Cottage

When Mrs Louisa W. Hand was eight or nine (and therefore the incident must have taken place around 1919 or 1920) she was playing in front of her grandmother’s cottage in Cockeymore, Lancashire. As she ran back inside she suddenly saw that the furniture had changed; the witness believed it was older-looking. The door to the kitchen was no longer there; it was quiet, and darker than usual.

Thinking that she might have entered the wrong cottage, though this was unlikely since it was the first in the row, she ran out to check. Sure it was correct, she ran back in again and was confronted by exactly the same surroundings. Only on the third attempt, and after being outside with other children for a while, did she return to her granny’s cottage to discover that it was back to normal. Somehow the child had experienced what seems to have been a time slip twice before the scene reverted to normal.
