At some time in the mid-to-late 1950s Mrs E. Thomas of Shoeburyness, Essex was walking in the country near her home. As she approached her house she sensed the breathing of a horse nearby. She could apparently also hear the hooves of the horse on the gravel and it sounded as though it was panting as if it was pulling a heavy load. She could, however, see nothing. Some time later she learned that the area had been a brick field, and horses had been used to pull the brick-laden carts along railway tracks at the very place where she had felt the horse’s presence.
