Mansion in a Wood

In 1946 brother and sister Grace and Bruce MacMahon were walking from Leigh-on-Sea in Essex to a creek near Hadleigh, passing a wood which they had seen many times and which was very familiar to them.

Both were shocked to discover a Georgian mansion standing near the wood that neither had seen before. They watched a young girl walk down the drive with a large dog, pass in front of them and disappear over a nearby hill. The MacMahons were unable to locate the house in later searches in the area and could find no reference to it in local archives.

No explanation has been forthcoming and subsequent researches failed to locate any house that would fit the descrip tion. Although it is tempting to speculate on a time slip, i.e. that the MacMahons were seeing either into the past or the future, this would seem to be ruled out by the fact that the young girl they saw was dressed in clothes appropriate to their own time.
