Uncle Reggie

When novelist Ngaio Marsh and her family were living in New Zealand, and Ms Marsh was a young girl, they had a visit from Uncle Reggie, her father’s ‘wild’ brother. Afterwards he returned to England, and some time later Ngaio’s mother, who appears to have had many instances of second sight or prescience, woke during the night, telling her husband, ‘Reggie is about and I think he wants us.’ Convinced that this was important, her mother made a note of the incident, including the time and date and put it in a safe place. It was some weeks later before they received a letter from England saying that Uncle Reggie had died in his garden chair during the heat of the day at exactly the same moment that Ngaio’s mother had woken and made the note on the other side of the world.
