Wallington

While working in Wallington, Surrey in 1968, Mr Chase was waiting for a bus when he noticed, for the first time, two old thatched cot tages with thatches and charming gardens. One of them had a date on the gable, which showed that they had been built in 1837. He thought no more of it until he casually mentioned to a colleague of his who lived locally, that he had not noticed the cottages before.

His col league told Mr Chase that he had been mistaken and that there were two quite modern brick houses at the place described. Mr Chase was so sure that he had seen two old cottages that he went back to the spot to investigate, only to find that his workmate had indeed been correct. So intrigued was he that he investigated further to find that the older locals remembered two old thatched cottages on that spot, but which had been demolished some years ago to make way for the two more modern houses.
