Byward Tower

This story relates to a yeoman who was in the guardroom at the Tower of London when he suddenly realised that something was different about the room. Although it was the same room, the furniture and other contents were quite different. There was a log fire that he had not noticed before around which sat several other guards whose pres ence he did not recall.

They seemed quite at home and he was sur prised to see that they were dressed in the uniforms of a long-past administration, and were smoking clay pipes. He went outside for a moment to find someone to whom he could report this occurrence, but when he went back he found that every thing had returned to normal.
