The Woodseats Hotel

Situated on Chesterfield Road in Woodseats, Sheffield, parts of this building date back several centuries. A catalogue of paranormal phe nomena have been recorded here over the years. One landlord recounted how he had been forced to the floor by unseen hands while working alone in the cellar. A later landlady was pushed up against the bar in the same manner, although there have never been any clear sightings of whatever was responsible. Objects have been thrown around by an invisible force, including a panful of food which was lifted from the cooker and hurled across the dining room! Children’s voices have been heard on several occasions emanat ing from unoccupied parts of the pub, shrieking and giggling.

Not limiting itself to moving objects around, the Woodseats Hotel spook has also been known to turn the gas supply on and off, and creates eerie ‘cold spots’ and ghostly tapping noises on an upstairs bedroom door. Perhaps this has something to do with a story remembered by some of the regular customers, in which a child was reputedly burned to death many years ago in one of the upstairs bedrooms. In late 1993, the tenants became so concerned about strange happenings in the Hotel that they decided to call in the experts, and have its rooms blessed.
