South Anston’s quiet oak-beamed 17th century pub is situated close to its historic Saxon/Norman Church. The Loyal Trooper is adjoined by a row of stone buildings which were once an abattoir. Despite the fact that these were long since converted into houses, from time to time ghostly cattle which still await their slaughter have been known to materialise!
Although the current landlord has not experienced any strange phenomena within the pub himself, members of his staff have seen fresh pints tipped over slowly and purposefully by an unseen hand, and small objects move around on shelves. Several years ago, one horrified cus tomer testified to having seen a pair of ghostly legs making their way through into the bar area!
