The Three Tuns

This Sheffield public house was a city centre watering hole as early as the 1700's, and it is thought that an ancient tavern existed on the site even earlier still. Several of the landlords have only been in residence for a very short time, before requesting that they be moved on to another tenancy. Many visitors to the pub have also experienced strange phenomena, which seem to be restricted to an area in the cellar where some wooden steps lead between rooms.

A brewery training officer who asked to be shown around began to shiver and sweat on entering the cellar, and after being taken back upstairs made her excuses to leave -only to have four days off work ill to recover. A young painter who was working in the cellar passed out there, blaming it on the 'flu, although strangely he was fine as soon as he left the building. Another contractor who was working in the cellar left in a hurry after saying that 'something' had touched him on the shoulder. He left his tools and sent someone else to finish the job. Several other people have since felt a mysterious, gentle hand being placed on their shoulder.

None of the cats and dogs who have been in residence at the Three Tuns over the years have dared venture near to the wooden steps in the cellar. Indeed, many people (even those who know nothing of the pub's haunted history) express a strange reluctance to venture in this area of the pub. The sobbing of an unseen woman emanates from this very place, her distressed voice being heard between the hours of midnight and early morning, although her identity remains a mystery.
