The RAF left Biggin Hill in the early 1990s; however, there is still a strong presence in the area. It is claimed a ghostly Spitfire can be seen regularly over the site of the airfield, a poignant phantom manifestation given the important role Biggin Hill played in the Battle of Britain as part of the first line of defence of London and the Home Counties, What is really spooky is that the ghost of the RAF pilot uses a victory roll to signal that he's going back to his base.
