Ringlestone Inn

Many years ago, a little lad, thought to be the son of the Ringlestone Inn's landlord, stole a sheep from a neighbouring farm, but he was caught. Although it was thought he stole the sheep to feed his family, the penalty was still severe, that of imprisonment or possibly deportation. Naturally, his anxious parents decided to hide him. An effective plan, they thought, was to brick him up in a cavity in the fireplace in the cellar. Quickly, they erected a wall, leaving one brick out so they could push food through to him.

Their plan worked and the lad was never found by the authorities. However, eventually, it is said, he failed to take the food and the parents assumed he had died. His father replaced the last brick into the opening and, eventually, the bereaved couple moved away, leaving their small son entombed within the cellar. It's possible that one of the child presences in the inn might be that of this small boy.
