Poistead Rectory

Shortly after having settled in at Polstead Rectory near Hadleigh, Suffolk in 1978, the Rev. Hayden Foster and his wife apparently asked a neighbour to help them as they could not spend another night on those premises. In the short time they had been there they had experienced strange noises and feelings. Mrs Margot Foster believed that some entity had attempted to strangle her.

The neighbours knew that the previous occupants had also experienced strange paranormal events during their stay at the rectory, returning to Ireland shortly afterwards. A friend reported at the time, that ‘They had had a very bad time and had returned home to get over it. They were said to be rational people, making their comments all the more plausible. It seems that similar things had happened twenty-five years ago and there had been other claims in the subsequent years.’ However, the wife of a former rector stated that although she had heard sounds she had never felt any malevolence from any ghost’s presence and didn’t particularly think about it. Mrs Anne Simpson of the parochial church council said that she believed the place to be haunted and that there had been an exorcism some years ago. Aston |
