The butler of Boxley

The Maidstone brewers, whose family name was Styles, occupied what is now the Boxley House Hotel from 1865 until 1945. During this time a butler was accused of stealing and, as a result, he hanged himself. In 1967 the property became Boxley Country Club and was reputed to be haunted by die butlers ghost. Now that it is a hotel, the alleged ghostly sightings continue to attract many visitors.
