Downe Court

Downe Court It has been claimed that when a photograph was taken in the gardens of Downe Court, the print revealed ghosts performing a black magic ritual. Downe Court has a history of black magic, which is unsurprising since it dates from the seventeenth century.

The history of the house has left a feeling of evil about the place. People speak of mysterious groaning and footsteps, and even something that sounds like a body being dragged across floorboards. Could this have been the body of the young servant girl deliberately drowned by an unknown man? A sighting of his shade has been reported and it could be his ghost which drags the poor young girl across the floor to her watery grave. It is also reported that her wraith rises from the pond in which she drowned and that she haunts the house, weeping and dripping water over the floor. Sometimes she stands sadly by her bed, unable to find a way onto the next plane so that her soul can be at peace.
