There was terror in the little Suffolk village of Honey Tye, in mid-December 1983. Residents fled their homes as light bulbs exploded, electrical appliances switched themselves on and burnt themselves out. 'It was really weird. We had no idea what was happening,' said Mrs Jackie Pearce of the Red Lion pub.
If it had happened in just a single house the story would have been written up as a poltergeist. Meanwhile the Eastern Electricity Board -who had repairmen working in the area at the time (well, where there's a traffic cop there's a holdup, right?) - explained that it was a mystery power surge of another kind.
