The owner of a fourteenth-century mill used to complain of a 'shadow' that came and stood beside him at nighttime when he was stone-dressing.
He said that the shadow was of a tall man with a long face and beard. He had the distinct impression that the presence was criticizing his methods of doing the work.
He discovered that a man answering this description used to work at Lailey's Mill many years ago and that he was an expert stone-dresser.Barnsley | Newtonmore |
