A council house in Bronte Street, occupied by the Coult-hard family, was the scene of 'poltergeist' activity in 1963 and 1964.
Exorcism was carried out by a local clergyman but had no lasting effect. Ornaments were thrown, bottles smashed, slippers shot up from the floor, plates and crockery crashed down and chairs and other objects were moved.
The householder fled and appealed for alternative accommodation.
