Mr Dunderdale and his wife were driving along the A677 near Samlesbury Hall in Lancashire when a woman dressed in a white cloak suddenly appeared in front of them.
Alex Dunderdale, who was driving at the time, swerved and braked as hard as he could but was unable to avoid running right over her.
When eventually the car came to a halt Dunderdale rushed back down the road to offer what assistance and first aid that he could, but the lady was nowhere to be seen. Although he looked for some time he could not find her and eventually had to give up his search.
Other people have reported similar sightings of the white lady in different circumstances. Sometimes they have stopped to give her a lift only to find she has disappeared. Sometimes they have seen her on the road ahead but as they walked towards her she has, again, disappeared.
